Acting Medical Officer for Health Dr Ivan Muscat MBE confirmed earlier today that only a small proportion of those in hospital with covid are fully vaccinated, but did not confirm the precise number.

He added that islanders could expect numbers soon, though, saying the Government were looking to collate hospitalisation information to release as a summary on a weekly basis. This, Dr Muscat said, was to ensure patients were not identifiable.

The first report could be published as early as next week.

According to the latest covid stats, there also 11 people in care homes with the illness.

In the third wave, there has been one death of a hospital patient announced so far – that of a 47-year-old, who was a popular member of the football community – but this is yet to be officially recorded.

Despite the rise in hospital figures, recorded covid cases overall fell again today, now standing at 2,717 – more than 2,000 of whom are unwell and showing symptoms.

Meanwhile, the latest vaccination figures show that, as of Sunday, 74% (73,964) of the island’s population aged 16 and over have received both doses of the covid vaccine, constituting 61% of the island’s overall population.

Government officials also confirmed today that more 100 people have taken up the offer of the walk-in vaccination centre established at the Fort in the last week.
