The islander – a client of Family and Nursing Home Care – fortunately did not disclose any personal information but was left feeling “distressed”.
FNHC, who referred the incident to the Police, explained: “Earlier today, we were made aware that one of our clients was phoned by a scam caller and asked to pay for a service we provide, over the phone.
“We do not work in this way, and the client was understandably distressed by the call. We have contacted the person to offer them reassurance and the person did not disclose any personal details to the caller.”
They said they were only wary of the one call, but warned their clients to be “wary of such scam calls” and reminded anyone unsure to call them directly.
Police commented: “If you have a family member who is under FNHC and is being treated at home please take the time to check with them that they have not received a call like this and made any payments as this is not genuine.”
Affected islanders or those who know someone who has been contacted in this way are urged to call Police on 612612.
