A combination of higher passenger numbers and seasonal illness among staff has been blamed for longer-than-usual security processing times at Jersey Airport.

Concerns were raised by passengers on social media over the weekend, with some travellers pointing out that the delays were occurring during one of the busiest times of the year for the port.

A Jersey Airport spokesperson said: “Due to a combination of increased passenger volumes and higher-than-expected seasonal illness among some of our team members, security processing times have been longer than usual during peak periods.

“We encourage passengers to arrive at the airport in plenty of time for their flights.

“No passengers have missed their flights as a result of these delays, and we sincerely thank all travellers for their patience and understanding.”

The airport has recently had a second security scanner repaired, allowing two scanners to operate, and had been planning to relocate the third scanner to ensure all three scanners were operational for the festive season.
