In recommending approval, planning officer Aaron Elliott said: “The site lies next to a popular walking route for islanders and tourists, and therefore, must not harm the amenities or setting of the area.
“The proposed works are similar to the terrace on the south elevation of the hotel and are not believed to look incongruous with the character of the building or harm the setting of the surrounding area.”

Planning do, however, propose that restrictions are placed on when music and other entertainment can take place.
The Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel previously made a successful planning application in 2017 to build a terrace on its western edge but the permit expired.
The new approved plansresurrect the concept with some minor alternations, including a small reduction in the size of the terrace and the use of glazed balustrading, which matches what is already there, rather than posts and rails.
