A woman had to be rescued from Belcroute Bay this morning after she came into trouble during her morning swim.
Jersey Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to a call from a concerned passerby who heard cries for help from a swimmer out at sea just before 08:00 on Friday 10 October.
The call prompted the inshore rescue boat to launch from La Haule slipway with five firefighters aboard.
A separate vehicle with four firefighters in water rescue clothing travelled directly to Belcroute Bay on land “in case an immediate swim rescue was required”, the service said.
The Fire Service confirmed the woman had “encountered difficulties” during her morning swim but was able to cling to rocks until the rescue boat crew reached her.
She was safely rescued and received immediate medical attention for hypothermia until an ambulance arrived.
Following the incident, station commander Craig Channing thanked the passerby who raised the alarm.
“Their quick thinking and willingness to act made a critical difference,” he said.
“Had it been earlier in the day or if no one had been nearby, the outcome could have been far more serious.
“On behalf of The Jersey Fire and Rescue Service we wish the woman a full and speedy recovery.”
