A man was brought to shore near Havre des Pas yesterday after being found nearly 300 metres from land.

The Fire and Rescue Service is reminding Islanders and visitors to take appropriate precautions when swimming at sea, after assisting the swimmer off Jersey’s south coast.

Station commander Mark Bailey-Walker said: “Sea swimming is a great way to enjoy Jersey’s coastline, but conditions can change quickly. If you’re planning a longer swim, we’d recommend letting Jersey Coastguard know your plans beforehand. We also recommend wearing appropriate swimwear and using a tow float or other suitable flotation device to improve your visibility and buoyancy in the water.”

Anyone planning to swim at sea is encouraged to familiarise themselves with conditions, be aware of tides and currents, and avoid swimming alone wherever possible.
