A motorcycle dealership has announced it is restructuring its business to reflect the realities of the market.

The Mansell Collection, which is owned by F1 world champion Nigel Mansell and his son Greg Mansell, will reduce its operations, the number of brands it offers and its stock.

Chief executive and director Greg said there had been a “sharp and sustained decline in demand” that is making it “increasingly difficult to see how the present level of manufacturer representation can be maintained.”

He added that Jersey had been “fortunate” to have the choice of manufacturer and stock which is “rare” for an island like Jersey.

The decision to reduce the size of the business has been made to ensure that motorcycle expertise remains in Jersey, adding: “What we ultimately stand to lose is choice, local stock, manufacturer representation, servicing, expertise and support for riders in Jersey. Once that infrastructure disappears, it is incredibly difficult to rebuild.

“We certainly don’t want to see Jersey follow the trajectory of smaller neighbouring islands where manufacturer representation and locally available stock have gradually disappeared. We hope the current market is temporary, but we also have to respond responsibly to the conditions we are facing today.”

The dealership is currently holding a stock reduction programme, with many of its motorcycles available at discounted prices.
