Two men have been arrested after a “violent incident” which saw one man try to assault the other with a large traffic cone in broad daylight.

Police are seeking witnesses to the incident which took place in Halkett Street and Beresford Street just after midday on Monday 10 March.

The two men were seen attacking each other, with one punching and kicking the other on the floor.

One man used a large traffic cone as a weapon to try and assault the other, according to a police appeal.

Police said one suspect was wearing a dark gilet top over a light coloured long-sleeve top, and the other man was predominantly dressed in black.

The area was very busy and numerous people had to stop or move away to avoid the incident, according to the appeal for information.

The police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, especially a man who was carrying a small child near the incident and had to move away.

The force confirmed that two males have been arrested and are currently in police custody.

One man has been charged and remanded in custody, but the wider investigation is still ongoing.

Neither party sustained significant injury as a result of the incident.
