Though our reporters wouldn’t say no to a newsroom in Ibiza, Bailiwick Express was confirmed to be firmly based in the Channel Islands last week – thanks to a surprise question on ITV quiz show The Chase.

Several eagle-eyed readers got in touch to point out that, in the final quick-fire question round of Wednesday’s episode, which pits contestants against the clock in a bid to ‘push back’ the Chaser as far as possible, host Bradley Walsh asked contestants: “The Bailiwick Express is based in what island group?”

Perhaps having misheard, hopeful player Paul from Northumberland volunteered: “The Balearics?”

…but the correct response was, of course, the “Channel Islands”, as Bradley Walsh pointed out, prompting a disappointed shake of the head from Paul.

But there was little time to despair, as it was onto the next question… You can catch the moment around 38 minutes into the episode here on ITVX.

It wasn’t the only time that the islands popped up on TV that week.

Gogglebox regular Shirley Griffiths also reminisced about a drunken escapade that began in Jersey.

While watching an episode of the reality series Below Deck, the Channel 4 armchair critic revealed to her husband Dave: “I stowed away on a boat once.”

“From Jersey to Portsmouth, back to Jersey and back to Portsmouth. Me and Julie – we got p*****.

“Yeah, I was that drunk. I didn’t know where the hell I was.”
