The initiative was part of HSBC’s ‘Help Someone Beat Cancer’ initiative in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The bank’s employees in Jersey rowed for a total of 344km on 23 March, helping raise £842.

The Channel Islands and Isle of Man combined total was 514lm covered and £1,472 raised. The money will go towards vital research at the Centre of Excellence, Southampton, benefitting islanders receiving treatment in their fight against cancer.

All events were rowing-based, apart from at HSBC’s St. Brelade branch in Jersey, which was too small to fit a rowing machine. Instead they had an exercise bike and raised £374 of the overall totals by taking turns to cycle.

The event mirrored the Oxford versus Cambridge Boat Race which took place on 24 March. Staff at HSBC Bank’s main branches in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man all took part in ‘Beat Cancer Boat Race’.
