The launch date for the reimagined Bergerac TV series has been confirmed, with those behind the reboot also revealing it has been sold to broadcasters around the world.
The new six-episode series – commissioned by BBC-owned broadcaster UKTV – will launch on U and U&DRAMA on 27 February.
It has also been acquired by NPO in the Netherlands, VRT in Belgium, BBC First in Poland, SVT in Sweden, ABC in Australia, YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark and TVNZ in New Zealand.
The news was confirmed just as the show’s star, Damien Molony, shared a brand new trailer.
Posted to social media, the clip sets a darker tone from the outset , with the titular detective declaring: “I lost my wife. I drank because it hurt too much – I stopped because it’s meant to.”
The new series, which was filmed last year – including scenes shot in a number of locations throughout the Island over the summer – is due to offer a “contemporary twist” on the popular detective drama created by Robert Banks Stewart, which starred John Nettles and ran on the BBC between 1981 and 1991.

Directed by Peaky Blinders director Colm McCarthy, it features Irish actor Damien Molony in the lead role of Jim Bergerac.
Executive producer Brian Constantine said: “The early success of Bergerac in the sales cycle is incredibly encouraging and a testament to the strength of the series.”
He continued: “It’s a positive sign as we head into a very busy period, with the industry’s attention now turning to London Screenings 2025 where top distributors and content creators showcase their latest offerings, we’re confident that Bergerac will continue to shine and generate strong interest from around the globe over the coming months.”

The acquisition deals were negotiated by the Banijay Rights global sales team.
Claire Jago, of Banijay Rights, said: “Bergerac is an enthralling, contemporary re-imagining of the much-loved 1980s crime drama, once again set in Jersey and featuring the iconic Triumph Roadster car.”
She added: “We have a fantastic new cast, writing and directing talent and are privileged to bring this drama to broadcasters and platforms around the world as we head into London TV Screenings this month.”

BlackLight TV co-founder Ben Bickerton said those behind the new series were “excited to be bringing back such an iconic title”.
He added: “With Toby Whithouse’s compelling scripts and Colm McCarthy’s outstanding direction, the relaunch will delight fans of the original and introduce Bergerac, and the beautiful island of Jersey, to a new audience around the world.”
