Over the last six months there have been several, mostly in the west of the island, with the most recent a large furze fire near to Les Landes in the early hours of last Saturday morning. That fire took three fire engines and a water carrier to bring it under control.
Chief Inspector Chris Beechey from States of Jersey Police, said, “Whilst it is acknowledged, especially during the summer months, that some outdoor activities carry an increased fire risk, the concentrated location and similar circumstances of these particular fires are such that we are concerned as to their cause. Any information that the public may have will be gratefully received.”
The recent Les Landes fire was quickly brought under control, but the fire service team had to remain on site throughout the morning to dampen down the affected area.
