Jersey Library is due to be taken over by stories, craft activities and music – including some jazz – next weekend in a bid to get kids “reading to the beat”.
Taking place next Saturday (27 June), the event will mark the launch of this year’s music-themed nationwide Summer Reading Challenge for 2026.
Now in its 27th year, The Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge seeks to encourage children to read throughout the summer holidays by setting goals and collecting rewards.
To kick off the programme, a ‘Super Sign-up Day’ event will take place at the Town Library from 9am to 5.30pm.
It will include themed activities such as:
• 10am – The Blind Poet – Dave Steele, in partnership with Eyecan
• 11am – JMS Jazz Combo
• Craft activities in the Children’s Library
Children who visit the library on “Super Sign-up Day” to register for the free challenge will also receive a free swim pass for AquaSplash.
Sign-up is also available throughout the holidays at Jersey Library as well as Communicare Library or the Mobile Library.
As part of the scheme, all children who read at least three books before 19 September will receive a free swim pass for AquaSplash, meaning children who register on the launch day can receive up to two free swim passes.
The passes must be redeemed before 1 October.
