The King’s Baton Relay will arrive in Guernsey on Thursday on its way to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow,
It’ll be the baton’s penultimate stop before it travels to Scotland, ahead of the games’ opening ceremony, which takes place at the end of July.
Each of the 74 nations and territories of the Commonwealth received their own blank wooden baton to decorate – with local sixth former art students decorating it in Guernsey, the island’s Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) said.
Guernsey’s unique baton features custom artwork designed by Brooke Carre, Summer Turberville, Amelia Bell, and Hannah Ozanne.
Members of the public are invited to view the baton and support Team Guernsey at various events throughout its five-day stay.
Its first public appearance will be on Thursday for the official welcome by the Bailifff, Sir Richard McMahon, at Guernsey’s Royal Court.
On Friday, it will pass through a boxing training session with at the Guernsey Amalgamated Boxing Club in St Martin’s.
And on Saturday the baton will make an appearance at a public beach clean at Pembroke Beach, alongside the Clean Earth Trust, the Bailiff, and local bowls athletes.
Over the weekend it’ll also head to Beau Sejour for the Island Swimming Championships, followed by a trip to Sark or Herm on Monday if the weather allows.
Throughout the week the baton will also make an appearance at Foote’s Lane, as well as being shown during assemblies at the Sixth Form, Blanchelande and Ladies College’s.
