Lisa MacDonald’s ‘Heart in a Jar’ can be seen at Gréve de Lecq Barracks until Friday 30 October.

Lisa started working on the series of paintings, her first ever, two years ago as she was going to the Pain Clinic in search of relief from her discomfort.

“I had never really been a painter before,” she explained. “…I started painting and I was thinking about things and that’s why I started creating the work.”

Looking back at what she created before “we even knew what the covid-19 virus was”, Lisa says it’s “extraordinary” that some of the shapes look similar to the virus.

“I’ve particularly concentrated on my experience of trying to create a safe world,” she said. “But I’ve been very conscious, as time has gone on and the lockdown and people being sick and being really conscious of people’s wellbeing about how that’s become a theme that we’ve all been really experiencing over the last few months.”
