The Weekender Festival is to return later this year to its usual September slot.

Organiser Warren Le Sueur confirmed that the event will be held in the People’s Park on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, having been held in July last year.

This marks a slight shift from the usual Saturday and Sunday festival, with there instead being a special ‘Weekender Presents’ evening on Friday 11 September as part of the two-day music event – subject to approval from the Bailiff’s Panel.

Mr Le Sueur said that he was looking forward to bringing “something new” to St Helier that “will be an incredible experience”.

“What we have got lined up is really exciting,” he said. “We’ve moved back to our usual September time as that is what has traditionally worked.

“We’re always looking at how we can adapt and the Friday night show will offer something different from what you might typically expect from Weekender – it is something that has taken the UK by storm.”

Last year’s event was headlined by Faithless and Sugababes, while also featuring performances from the likes of the Reytons, K-Klass and the Pigeon Detectives.

Meanwhile, Mr Le Sueur is also bringing something new to the popular Lib in the Square weekend.

Held in the Royal Square, the two-day event features major names in dance music with a special stage constructed on the balcony of the United Club.

Roger Sanchez will headline on Saturday 2 May, with MK topping the bill the following day.

However, a special Lib Live event will now take place on the Friday, which Mr Le Sueur said would be an acoustic-style event featuring UK artists performing stripped back sets.

“That will be a very different vibe from Lib [in the Square],” he said, adding that more details on the line-up and tickets for Lib Live would be announced soon.

“Lib in the Square is always such a great event,” added Mr Le Sueur.

“It is such a unique venue and brings a real vibrancy to town. That weekend will be a real celebration of live music in St Helier.”
