A woman whose fit and active 40-year-old partner suffered a stroke while running a 5km race in St Helier is turning her gratitude into action by hosting a fundraising cake sale.
Headway Jersey supports islanders living with brain injuries – and for Emily Le Beuvant, the cause is personal.
Her partner, Wayne, was taking part in a 5km race when he suffered a stroke caused by a blockage in his brain.
The sudden medical emergency was a shock, as the 40-year-old was a keen and active runner.
Wayne was transferred to Southampton Hospital, where he underwent life-saving surgery.

Now, Emily is channelling that experience into fundraising efforts to support others facing similar challenges.
She is organising a cake sale for Headway Jersey at Communicare in St Brelade tomorrow between 9am and 12pm.
Emily, who also volunteers as a fundraiser for the charity, is preparing to take on the London Marathon in 2026 in support of the organisation.
Headway Jersey’s marketing and income-generation manager, Nikolett Jones, said Emily’s commitment is driven by “gratitude and lived experience”.
“She has seen first-hand the importance of rehabilitation, community and specialist support for brain injury survivors,” she said.
Funds raised at the cake sale will go towards the charity’s rehabilitation programmes and its bus service, which was described as a “lifeline” for members.
The Headway Jersey bus enables islanders with brain injuries to travel to and from the centre, ensuring they can access therapy, social interaction and vital rehabilitation support.
