I’m standing as an independent candidate for Senator.  I was first elected as a Deputy in 2022.  Since then, I have been Treasury Minister, Assistant Minister for External Relations and Minister for Social Security.

Before being elected, I had a successful career in law and financial services.  I was a Jersey advocate and was the first woman to hold the office of Viscount.

I’m standing for election because I want to do more to make sure that Jersey is a place where people want to live and build their families, careers and businesses.  For many people Jersey is a wonderful place to live: beautiful and safe, with good opportunities and a strong community – but for others, living here is a struggle.  We need to change that if we want Jersey to succeed and everyone to enjoy a decent quality of life.

That means finding effective solutions to challenges and making sensible and thoughtful decisions.

I have shown I can get things done and I’ve worked hard to deliver positive results:

  • I brought the proposition that reinstated the role of Senator
  • I reduced the cost of GP visits by £20
  • I addressed cost of living issues by increasing pensioner and other benefits and by temporary reductions in social security contributions
  • I supported the important work to ensure that our financial services industry remains competitive.

We have challenges to address, including the cost of living.  I’ll aim to find ways of limiting the costs of housing and childcare and try to understand why Government support isn’t reaching the right people.  We have to target help carefully.

It is vital that financial services continues to thrive but, by enabling all businesses to succeed, our economy will grow and improve our quality of life.  I will aim to reduce red tape and complex regulation and make it easier for new businesses to develop.

I support continued control of government spending, so that we can put more money into reserves, to provide resilience against future shocks.  And government must harness the potential (but limit the harms) of AI.

A population strategy, that addresses the needs of young and old into the future, is vital.  We need to plan carefully for education and make sure we have a working age population that can sustain our economy and our public services. We have to build homes older people, so they can downsize to suitable accommodation, not a first-time buyer flat.  Future health and long-term care provision must be a priority; our new hospital is just the start of that.

To achieve all of this, we need solutions that work for Jersey now.  I will continue working hard to deliver effective and fair outcomes that benefit our community and our economy.   I believe in Jersey and I will always put the interests of Jersey first.

I do hope that you will vote for me as one of your senators.

Thank you.
