Karl Care
Hello I’m Karl Busch a social entrepreneur standing for senator. I invest time and energy into the community and get so much more back. I luv what I do in sharing responsibility for our health, prevention is simply far better than cure. Unless you pass suddenly or have significant financial resources, your later years may be shaped by the care system and long-term care. I know from experience that care is expensive and can place a heavy strain on your finances. We need a more creative approach to care, one rooted in love, dignity, and an understanding of the individual. One day, that person could be you. Through social enterprise, we can take a more holistic and agile approach to care, providing support and professional services that ease pressure on the system.
Empowering community
I am pleased to share Step55, a health and wellbeing initiative that is making a meaningful contribution to the community and continues to grow. As of June, this year, we are delivering 20 classes and supporting 200 adults aged over 55 with one hour of activity each week. This has been achieved by enabling members of the community to contribute their skills, experience, and passion for the benefit of others. With the right structure, community represents a powerful and underused resource that can be mobilised to help meet its own needs.
Meeting our needs
Too many Islanders are being left behind: only 54% meet the recommended level of weekly physical activity, compared with 64% in the UK. At Step55 we are already tackling the linked challenges of health, wellbeing and an ageing population head on. My election promise is clear: with the right government support, social enterprise can help more than 2,000 Islanders become more active, improve quality of life, and reduce pressure on our health system. This is a practical, ambitious plan to deliver better outcomes for Islanders at little cost to the taxpayers.
Economy
I have experience. I understand the finance industry. My background is financial services; I work very hard at keeping my skill levels up to date completing the equivalent of two degrees in 5 years. I think that sustainability has a huge part in our future and social enterprise will play a big part in that too. Watch – I will make it happen. We need change and ability to adapt fast. We need creativity and agility. We need people in government with fresh ideas and able to listen, make firm calculated risk-based decisions and diversify. Social enterprise can empower individuals with social purpose, grow and share experience under a structure unique to Jersey with far reaching benefit here and globally.
Experience
I have served in elected office and understand how government works. My priority is your health and wellbeing, happier active islanders saving on healthcare cost. Our community is rich in talent, commitment and experience. I will harness that strength through practical reform and social enterprise, creating the structures needed to turn local energy into lasting public benefit.
