14 riders have been selected to represent Guernsey at the Orkney Island Games in July.

The team will consist of four riders in the ladies’ road team and five riders in the men’s mountain bike and road teams.

The teams represent a mixture of experienced riders who have competed at previous Island Games as well as some up and coming young riders, who were inspired by watching the Guernsey 2023 Island Games, said Steven Palmer, from the Guernsey Velo Club.

“During November 2024 the provisional team size was down to six riders,” he said.

“Since then, so many riders have shown great enthusiasm and we are delighted that the team has grown to fourteen.”

The cycling events will span five days in Orkney this July, beginning with the road time trial on Monday of Games week.

The racing will continue with the mountain bike criterium on Tuesday, road race on Wednesday, mountain bike cross country on Thursday and finally the road criterium on Friday.

Both individual and team medals will be up for grabs in all 5 events.
