Emil Friedrich has secured his second national title within the space of a few weeks and rewritten the local record books along the way.
Competing in the U15 boy pentathlon at England Athletics’ Indoor Combined Event Championships, Friedrich secured a 100-point plus winning margin with a stunning closing 800m.
The leading competitors switched positions as the five events unfolded in Sheffield.
Friedrich was in third after the opening 60m hurdles (9.05s) and long jump (5.66m), but edged into a small lead after a PB with his opening throw in the shot (11.45m).
He slipped back after the high jump, where he cleared 1.59m, with Jack Ruby heading into the final 800m with a 45-point lead.
But Friedrich, the England 300-metre champion, then ran more than 14 seconds faster than his rival, producing a negative split for a 2:00.51 800m, an island age-group best, that included a sub 60s closing 400m.
He won the title with 3039 points, with Ruby second with 2926 and Freddie Strong third on 2815.
