This year’s event also turned the heat up at different parts of the day too, with the sunshine sapping the energy levels, while 12 of those taking part were also competing in the Five Islands Ultra and already had three stages in their legs with the prospect of a loop around Jersey to come.

One of those was past winner Tiaan Erwee, who led the field home with a comfortable margin in 4:45.14.
Erwee was managing his pace, he came off the cliffs some 19 minutes slower than during his record setting run last year when he eventually clocked 4:06.10.

Ciaran Slattery was runner-up in 5:04.01 and Danny Legg third with 5:18.45.
The women’s race was won by Claire Moffat, visiting from Dunfermline and taking part in her first ultra.
She crossed the line in 5:58.52, with Caroline Barby second in 6:10.48 and Taylor Briggs third in 6:23.38.
