Simon Arnold and Ross Allen each scored in Saturday’s “crucial win” for the Green Lions.

The visit of fellow league strugglers Metropolitan Police was billed an “important step” in Guernsey FC’s bid for Isthmian South Central survival – with fans answering the call to show their support for the home side on Saturday.

Coach Kevin Gilligan said he was “really pleased” with his team’s performance.

“They had some good chances but we took it…absolutely delighted to take all three points,” he said after the victory was secured.

Arnold scored in the 43rd minute, converting a rebound to give the Green Lions a first half lead.

Allen scored off a penalty in the 81st minute after Jacob Fallaize was brought down attacking a corner kick.

He fired the spot-kick into the top corner to take a goal in his last game at Footes Lane before GFC moves to its new home at Victoria Park later this month.

Guernsey remain in the danger zone just outside the relegation zone by 6 points, but with up to four games in hand on some of the teams above them.

GFC’s next three games are away at Leatherhead (tomorrow), Hayes & Yeading Utd (Saturday 8 March) and Farnham Town (Wednesday 12 March).

The next home game for GFC is Saturday 15 March when they host Ascot Utd in their final game at Footes Lane.
