Guernsey FC were well beaten by one of the league’s leading sides as they played their final home game at Footes Lane.
The 4-0 loss to Ascot United, currently sitting fourth in Isthmian South Central while the Green Lions fight relegation, was maybe not surprising, but still not how they would have wanted to sign off.
The visitors barely gave the hosts a sniff, as a goal from Ben Harris and two for Anas Igozouln gave them a 3-0 margin at half time. George Lock added the fourth on 51 minutes.
Elsewhere in the relegation scrap, South Park (Reigate) lost 1-0 at Farnham Town, while the Metropolitan Police created some breathing space with a 1-0 win against Kingstonian.
GFC now have two games on the road before the opening of their new home, Victoria Park, on Saturday 29 March.
On Wednesday they travel to second placed Kingstonian and next Saturday play South Park (Reigate) in what is one of the key fixtures of the run in. South Park are currently in the final safe spot, one place and one point above the Green Lions having played one game more.
