Guernsey FC have been denied their right to a home play-off final as it stands

There has been widespread frustration and disbelief following the Southern Combination Football League’s decision to strip Guernsey FC of home advantage for their play-off final against Peacehaven & Telscombe FC.

The Green Lions, who earned the right to host the fixture at Victoria Park after finishing third and winning their semi-final, were informed on Bank Holiday Monday evening that the match would instead be played on the mainland.

Guernsey FC described themselves as “extremely disappointed and frustrated” in a strongly-worded club statement, arguing that the decision “undermines the integrity of the competition”.

The club also raised concerns for supporters from both sides who had already arranged travel and accommodation following confirmation that the final would take place in Guernsey.

League officials cited “complex travel arrangements” as justification for the switch, despite Guernsey stating they had offered to assist Peacehaven & Telscombe with travel logistics, including overnight accommodation plans and airport transport.

The decision has sparked outrage on social media; with many supporters arguing Guernsey have been unfairly punished despite earning home advantage on merit.

Fans have also questioned why the league appears to have allowed Peacehaven & Telscombe significant influence over whether the fixture could take place in the island.

Ironically, Guernsey comfortably defeated the same opposition 6-0 at Victoria Park earlier this season.

The Green Lions are now considering a formal appeal to the Football Association, although the SCFL have reportedly insisted their decision is final.

As it stands, confirmation of the final arrangements is still awaited.
