Alison Merrien fell at the final hurdle in the British Isles Indoor bowls Championship.
Representing the Channel Islands in the women’s singles, she was defeated by England’s Katherine Rendall yesterday afternoon.
Merrien took a two shot lead in the opening end, but from then on her opponent piled on the points, taking eight of the following nine ends to establish a 15-4 advantage.
Merrien, the defending champion, pulled things back to 15-9, but failed to make much inroads from there and lost 21-10.
The CI team was also represented in the Women’s Junior Singles by Jersey’s Chloe Greechan.
Greechan led for the majority of the match, at one stage by 10 shots, but her opponent, Lauren Gowen from Wales, pulled level in the 21st end.
Three for Greechan in the next end reestablished the lead, and they then traded shots over the next two before three for the Welsh player leveled things up again.
Gowen took a nail biting tie with one shot in the deciding 26th.
