Guernsey Padel says this year’s annual Rocq Capital Island Championships were a big success, bringing together more than 100 local padel players from Under 14s to Over 60s. 

The Men’s doubles final saw Olly Cull and Ben Inder defeat father and son team Liam and Matt De La Mare 6-3, 7-5 in a closely fought game. 

Iin the Ladies’ Open, Michelle De Villiers and her niece Chloe De La Mare won the title, beating Tracy Hubert and Debbie Allen 6-4, 6-3.

In the Mixed Doubles, the team of Olly Cull and Tracy Hubert were too strong for their opponents, Rob West and Lauren Watson-Steele, winning the final with a score of 6-2, 6-4.

In the Over 45 category, the Men’s Vets final saw Matt De La Mare playing in this category for the first time. He teamed up with Mauro Becker to win the final against previous champions Lester Boscher and Phil Radford. The match went to a tiebreak, with De La Mare and Becker winning 6-7, 6-4, 11-9.

We saw a title retaining effort in the Ladies’ Vets final, with Debbie Allen and Andi Ferbrache beating Michelle De Villiers and Sara Woolland 6-3, 6-0.

For the Over 60s, Louise Inder and James Sherborne were the winners in a tight final against Jim Arrol and Andy Platt, with a final score of 5-7, 7-6, 11-9.

In the Junior category, Ed Morgan and Logan Cherrett lost out to Liam De La Mare and Jack Bachmann 6-4, 6-4, with the latter duo crowned champions. 

Lastly in the in the Under 14s, Danny Conchar and Rocco Elliot triumphed over Alex Hutchinson and Ned Wain 4-1, 4-0.
