Around 600 young rugby players from across the Channel Islands took part in the Junior Siam festival in Guernsey this weekend.

The event was held at Footes Lane on Saturday 2 May and featured fixtures across multiple age groups, from six- to 17-years-olds.

There were 43 matches played in total on Saturday, with Jersey teams winning 22 of them. Three of the matches ended in a draw, with Guernsey therefore winning 18 outright.

Jersey under-7 boys took home the trophy, whilst the under-8 boys beat Guernsey by five games to four.

After the round robin, the under-9s were level on four wins and one draw each, but Jersey scored more tries and clinched the trophy.

Jersey’s under-12 boys put in a fine performance to secure a 30-15 victory over Guernsey, but the under-14 boys lost 12-21 to the home side.

The two Jersey girls’ teams – the under-14s and under-16s – lost to their Sarnian counterparts.

Jersey’s under-16 boys took home the Bill Lavarack Memorial Trophy, but the under-18 boys lost 8-25 to the Guernsey Colts.

The academy, which supports more than 400 players aged between four and 18, said the event remains a key moment in the season and reflects its focus on inclusivity and development, underpinned by rugby’s core values.

Academy Chair Bethan Haines described the Junior Siam as “the highlight of the rugby season,” adding that significant volunteer effort went into creating a memorable day for players and families alike.

She also thanked this year’s sponsors, including Pentera Trust and Grant Thornton, saying their support was vital in making the event possible.

Pentera Trust Director Ed Bayman said the organisation was “proud and excited” to sponsor the event for a second year, highlighting the scale of involvement from players, volunteers and supporters.
