Eighteen young players from St Clement U14s were given the chance to train with AFC Bournemouth coaches, tour the Vitality Stadium and take part in a session led by former club captain Ian Cox, thanks to sponsorship from Normans.
The team, along with five coaches, travelled to England for a weekend of football development training and team building activities and the sponsorship helped reduce the financial burden on families, ensuring more young players could benefit from the experience.
Martina McGibney, Managing Director of Normans, said: “We are delighted to support a community group that plays such a vital role in developing young talent and encouraging active, healthy lifestyles. Investing in our youth is investing in Jersey’s future, supporting the next generation of young athletes in the Island, and we’re proud to stand behind the St Clement U14s.”
The boys also played against AFC Bournemouth’s community programme and developed their skills during a weekend designed to build confidence, teamwork and match experience. As part of the partnership, Normans will also sponsor the team’s pre-match shirts.
Lindsey Cassidy, Head Coach of St Clement U14s, added: “What makes this partnership particularly special is that it’s helped provide opportunities, experiences and life lessons for a group of young Islanders. The Bournemouth trip was a huge success. The boys competed brilliantly against strong opposition, represented St Clement Sports Club and Jersey with pride, and returned with memories and experiences that will stay with them for many years. It shows the positive impact that local businesses can have when they invest in grassroots sport and youth development.”
Beyond his coaching role, Lindsey also has a long-standing relationship with Normans, swapping his Head Coach shirt for his decorating uniform during the day. He has been a valued trades customer and supporter of Normans for many years, further strengthening the community connection behind this partnership.
Normans’ sponsorship underlines its support for local initiatives that help young Islanders take part in sport, develop confidence and build lasting connections.
