Jersey’s Evelyn Partners Jets beat Ryland 46-43 yesterday in their first win of the new Premier League 3 season.

After failing to win either of their opening two Premier fixtures this season, coach Kersten admitted this was a “must-win game”.

Ahead of the game, she explained: “People will see my name in the squad for this week. I will be providing some cover in the wing defence position due to some unavailabilities in the group.

“It’s been an interesting week; this will be my first game for three-and-a-half years, but it’s not a permanent thing.

“I’ve always said to the group that I would help out if ever needed and I am required this weekend, so I’ll give it my best shot to help the group.”

The Jets led 14-10 at the end of Q1, which became a 23-20 lead at half-time. A seven-point gap opened up at the end of Q3, as the home side had a 38-31 advantage going into the final quarter, but that lead was swiftly chopped to just two points with minutes remaining.

However, the cool heads of the girls in red held on, with key interceptions in the defensive circle combined with sharp movement and shooting in the offensive D.

The Jets held off the Ryland comeback to secure an important victory.
