This week’s episode of The Warm Up focuses on another huge weekend of inter-island sport, with major fixtures in football and cricket taking centre stage.
Top billing belongs to the Women’s Muratti Vase as Jersey host Guernsey at Springfield Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
After losing the previous two editions, Jersey will be determined to reclaim the trophy on home soil, with kick-off scheduled for 1:30pm. The fixture also comes at an exciting time for women’s football locally following the impressive debut campaign of the Jersey Bulls Girls academy side and continued growth across the game on the Island.
Elsewhere in football, St Paul’s travel to Guernsey for the Jeremie Cup final against St Martin’s, who finished second in the Priaulx League this season.
Cricket also provides one of the standout moments of the weekend as Jersey face Guernsey in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Sub Regional Qualifier A in Cyprus.
The winners will progress to the regional finals alongside Italy, Netherlands and Scotland, all of whom received byes after competing at the previous T20 World Cup, plus two other qualifying nations from groups B and C.
Alongside the international action, Elliot Corbel also rounds up another busy schedule of Division 1 and Division 2 local cricket fixtures.
Basketball fans are also set for a packed few days as Jersey hosts a four-day junior tournament featuring sides from Guernsey, Essex and Luxembourg. Fixtures will take place across Beaulieu and Oakfield, with Jersey represented across multiple age groups ahead of next month’s senior inter-insulars.
Finally, Oliver Kidman prepares for a different kind of sporting test as he makes his muay thai debut at the Blood Fitness white collar event on Saturday evening.
And of course, Fixture Forecast returns as the team continue their local cricket predictions following Elliot Corbel’s football forecasting victory earlier this year.
