The latest Bailiwick Sports Podcast sees Archie Corbett sit down with Jersey’s top golfer, Sam Quail, ahead of a huge weekend in the Island’s golfing calendar.
Quail takes on Guernsey’s Lewis Marley in the delayed Channel Islands Final, starting at 3pm on Saturday before teeing off at 8:30am on Sunday at La Moye Golf Club.
Across the episode, the pair get into the reasons behind the delay, Quail’s preparation, and how he’s feeling heading into what he describes as “the biggest match” of his year.
It comes at a good time for the Jersey golfer, who has been in strong form with six wins from his last nine competitions, and is beginning to build some serious momentum heading into the showpiece.
There’s also a look at his return from injury and how he’s managed to get himself back into rhythm in time for a packed few weeks.
Attention then turns to next weekend, where Quail is part of a four-man Channel Islands side heading to Hampshire to take on a Hampshire County select at Barton-on-Sea and Stoneham. Alongside Matthew Parkman, Josh Ozard and Charlie Kiberd, he discusses the shift from competing against the Island’s best to lining up alongside them.
Naturally, the conversation drifts into football too, with Quail – who manages Jersey Wanderers alongside Chris Gill – offering his thoughts on the Premiership 1 title race. Wanderers remain locked in a tight battle with St Clement, with just three games left to play.
It’s a busy spell for Quail on and off the course, and this episode offers a proper look at how he’s approaching it all.
