Jersey sport delivered across the board once again this weekend – with play-off football secured, silverware claimed, and standout individual performances taking centre stage in the latest episode of The Cool Down.
At the heart of the weekend was another big moment for Jersey Bulls, who confirmed their place in the Isthmian South East play-offs with a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Deal Town. Lorne Bickley was the difference yet again, continuing his knack for decisive goals at the business end of the season.
Elsewhere, the Jersey Bulls Women maintained their flawless run with a dominant 4-0 win over Meadow Sports. Anita Tavares led the charge with a hat-trick, while Leah Morris added a fourth as the Islanders moved to within one win of securing the league title.
There was more success on home soil as Jersey’s Under-18s retained the Junior Muratti in style, defeating Guernsey 6-2 at Springfield. Joey O’Toole’s hat-trick, alongside goals from Rory Baines and Stan Dunne, capped a commanding display from Steve Coutanche’s side.
In local cup action, St Peter staged a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down to beat Rozel Rovers 3-2 in the JFA Cup, with Luke Lister netting all three goals. Meanwhile, Rozel Rovers Women lifted the Colin Welsh Cup with a 2-1 victory over St Peter, continuing their recent success in domestic competitions.
Away from football, hear from Sam Quail following his dramatic Channel Islands final win over Guernsey’s Lewis Marley, following a gripping contest at La Moye.
In the pool, Filip Nowacki enjoyed a breakthrough meet, claiming his first senior British title in the 200m breaststroke, alongside silver medals in the 50m and 100m events.
Jersey Cricket also took centre stage, with Jersey bouncing back from 2-0 down to draw a four-match series with Scotland A, including an emphatic 134-run victory to close the weekend.
Elsewhere, Royals RFC fell to a 38-17 defeat against Shoreham, while in volleyball, Jersey’s women claimed inter-insular honours in Guernsey, although the men were beaten on the road.
