You don’t need to be scoring goals, running laps or breaking records to play a part in Jersey’s sporting community.
Islanders who fancy meeting new people, trying something different or simply giving a little of their spare time are being invited to discover the perhaps less obvious ways they can get involved – as Jersey Sport prepares to hold its first ever Volunteering in Sport Fair.
The free event will bring local sporting organisations together at the Pomme d’Or Hotel on Tuesday 8 September, giving potential volunteers the chance to find an opportunity that suits them.
More than coaches and referees…
Volunteers are involved in everything from running clubs and sporting events to supporting athletes – and Jersey Sport says people do not need any previous experience to get involved.
Dom Blampied, Sport Development Officer (Pathways) at Jersey Sport, said: “Jersey Sport is delighted to be hosting our first Volunteering in Sport Fair. Volunteers are at the heart of sport, from helping to run clubs and events to supporting athletes and creating opportunities for islanders to get active.
“Sport thrives because of the time, energy and passion that volunteers give, and Jersey is no different. We want to connect people who are interested in volunteering with local sporting organisations and show them just how many different ways they can get involved, and what the benefits are.
“Whether you have years of experience in sport or have never volunteered before, there is an opportunity for everyone. We hope people will come along, have a chat, meet some friendly faces and discover how they can play their part in one of Jersey’s strongest communities.”
Fancy giving it a go?
The fair is aimed not only at existing sports enthusiasts but anyone looking to meet people in their community, try something new or find a way of giving back.
Visitors will be able to speak directly to Jersey Sport and local sporting organisations about the roles available and what is involved.
Light refreshments will also be available.
The Volunteering in Sport Fair takes place at the Pomme d’Or Hotel from 12pm to 2pm on Tuesday 8 September.
