Ashworth & Bird Ltd has agreed the sale of its Jersey menswear business, located within de Gruchy department store, to the store operator, A. de Gruchy & Co Limited.

As part of the transaction Richard Clews, Managing Director, Ashworth & Bird will continue to work with de Gruchy on a consultancy basis and all existing Ashworth & Bird menswear staff will transfer to the store.

de Gruchy department store is currently undergoing an exciting £15m redevelopment due to complete in late 2016. As part of the plans the store is being completely transformed to create a state-of-the-art retail environment incorporating new collaborations, services and digital interactivity to give customers a truly engaging retail experience. The purchase of A&B’s Jersey menswear business marks the latest in a string of announcements made by the retailer.

Richard Clews said: “Ashworth and Bird has successfully established a premium menswear business within de Gruchy. The change of ownership to de Gruchy was a natural step with the store redevelopment and I look forward to working with de Gruchy to continue to grow the business as part of these exciting plans”

Commenting on the announcement Neville Moore, Managing Director of de Gruchy said he was excited at the prospect of building on this highly successful business and was looking to significantly increase sales with existing brand partners as part of the ongoing store investment programme.

He said: “We are delighted to be able to acquire the Jersey menswear business of Ashworth & Bird. We believe there are significant opportunities to further develop our menswear business and look forward to building on A&B’s success as we reposition and invest in de Gruchy.  I look forward to working with Richard in a consultancy capacity as part of these menswear growth plans.”
