Volaw Director marks 40 years employment

Friday 31 July 2015

Today's an ordinary day in the office for most of us, but for Denise Marett it marks 40 years working for the same firm.

Denise joined the law firm of Michael Voisin & Co. on 1st August 1975 as a book-keeper/accounts administrator, quickly establishing herself as an important part of the firm’s finance team.

When the law firm decided to form an independent trust company in 1982, Denise became an integral part of the start-up of Volaw, in which she has remained employed. Denise worked her way through the ranks before becoming a Director on 1st October 2003, with overall responsibility for Credit Control / Accounts and Human Resources.

Denise is described by colleagues as a well-respected member of the board who is not afraid to speak her mind. She is also known for her playful sense of humour, and has been known to play pranks on certain members of staff, while taking others under her wing to help them advance in their careers.

Denise has seen many changes over the years and has always been open to the challenges she has faced. Her approach is key to her success: “If you enjoy what you do and the people you work with, there is no reason why you cannot go far. I have always looked for solutions rather than dwelt on the problems and find that having an honest and open attitude helps in tricky situations, but also gain respect that you need to survive and move forward. Forty years seems to have flown by and I am fortunate to have made some great friends here over that time.”

Volaw Group’s Managing Director, Robert Christensen, has worked with Denise for most of her forty-year tenure, and commented: “It is increasingly rare to find anyone who has remained in the employment of one company for several decades, so Denise’s loyalty and dedication are all the more appreciated by her colleagues and fellow board members. Denise has brought determination, hard work, knowledge and experience to her role as a director of Volaw. Her energy and enthusiasm for the job have not diminished over her career and she still brings a sense of purpose to work that has contributed greatly to the success that we have enjoyed over the years.”
