The same type of products were selected in each of the different stores to compare and contrast the costs.
This essential list has 25 items in total, and these products are your everyday essentials: eggs, milk, pasta, bread.
At the end of August, Alliance was the cheapest and Iceland the most expensive. It was the same result this time out except the gulf between them has grown.

It’s not a totally foolproof system, and the team behind SuperSavvySavers admit that freely.
Some shops only stock named branded goods, and not their own essentials. Some sell products by different weight measurements, so the team take averages and do the maths to get the prices as close as possible for like-for-like goods.
However as a guide, it does put into context just how different the price of an essential shop can be depending on where you shop.
The cheapest shop for the 25 items comes out at £32.44 if you shop at Alliance, with Waitrose, Marks and Spencer and the Co-Op all within a £5 range in that order.
Morrisons sits just above the bottom spot, with a shop that will cost you £1.05 more than the cheapest counterpart. Iceland sits in bottom – or the most expensive – place.
In the past this has been attributed to named branded goods sold at Iceland affecting the average price, but the gulf in cost is something shoppers should be aware of, with the same basket costing £10.98 more than at Alliance.
