Guernsey Ports has appointed Richard Thomasson as Guernsey’s new Airport Director.

He brings 18 years of experience with him, from previous senior roles at Bristol Airport and Cornwall Airport Newquay.

Mr Thomasson will be responsible for day-to-day operations, regulatory compliance, and long-term strategy for both Guernsey and Alderney Airports.

It  follows Ross Coppolo’s appointment at Managing Director for Guernsey Ports last year.

Prior to his elevation to MD, Mr Coppolo had been the Chief Operating Officer, a role replaced by Mr Thomasson’s new position, Airport Director.

“Richard is a highly-qualified and well respected aviation professional, who has excelled in senior operational roles at Bristol Airport and Cornwall Airport Newquay,” said Mr Coppolo.

“His experience, knowledge and enthusiasm will be an asset to Guernsey Ports as we strive for continuous improvement across Guernsey and Alderney Airports.

Mr Coppolo continued: “This is a crucial role in which Richard will oversee day-to-day airport operations, uphold regulatory compliance and help to guide our long-term strategy, supporting our aims to grow connectivity and diversify the business.”

Mr Thomasson said one of his priorities is around improving customer experience and maximising the airport’s benefits for Guernsey’s economy.

“I am excited to take up this opportunity as the Bailiwick of Guernsey’s Airport Director. It was clear through the interview process that my vast previous aviation experience would be a great fit for this role.

Mr Thomasson continued: “I cannot wait to get started working in partnership with the Ports team and wider business partners.

“My absolute focus is to put the customer experience at the heart beat of our strategy whilst ensuring we take full advantage of the airport’s capability to maximise the benefits for the local economy and its community.”
