A new consultant with eyecare and cataract surgery expertise has joined the Medical Specialist Group.
Martin Anderson, a consultant ophthalmologist, has joined the team permanently and brings it up to a full complement alongside Juliana Helou, Mike Blundell and Nick Watson.
Mr Anderson previously worked at the Scottish National Treatment Centre and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the European Board of Ophthalmology.
He was specially trained in Edinburgh and Fife after receiving his medicine degree from the University of Glasgow, and he is also an honorary research fellow at the University of St Andrews where he trains eyecare specialists working in sub-Saharan Africa.
Mr Anderson said he was delighted to move to our “beautiful island” and has promised to offer personalised care to patients.
“I believe strongly in the importance of continuity of care, working closely with patients from initial consultation through treatment and ongoing follow-up to ensure the best possible outcomes. The opportunity to deliver this level of continuous, personalised care was one of the key factors that attracted me to this position in Guernsey,” he said.
“I look forward to exploring Guernsey’s stunning beaches through open water swimming, as well as making the most of everything this island has to offer for young families.”
MSG chair Dr Steve Evans said he would be a great asset to the local community.
“I’d like to thank the whole ophthalmology team for the way they have worked to maintain a high quality service over the past year, with the support of experienced locum ophthalmologists. We’re very pleased to once again have a full team of four great ophthalmologists in post who are here for our patients every step of the way,” he added.
