Three Guernsey hotels have been under the same family ownership for seven decades, with the business marking the milestone after a year of investment across its properties.
Sarnia Hotels, the family-owned group behind Best Western Moores Hotel, Best Western Hotel de Havelet and Les Rocquettes Hotel, is celebrating its 70th anniversary.
Founded in 1956 by Jack and Ella Parker, alongside their daughter and son-in-law Sheila and Andre Sendlhofer, the business began while the family was managing Moores Hotel.
It has since grown to include Hotel de Havelet, acquired in 1971, and Les Rocquettes Hotel, added to the portfolio in 1996.
Karel Harris, Managing Director, said: “Over the past 70 years, my parents and grandparents have poured their hearts into these hotels, creating distinctive guest experiences that showcase how special Guernsey is.”
The anniversary comes after a major programme of renovations and upgrades across all three properties last year, with the work carried out by local contractors.
The group also supports community projects through initiatives including a sustainable housekeeping scheme, which invites guests to forgo daily room cleaning in return for a charitable donation.
The scheme raised more than £14,000 for Guernsey Trees for Life over its first two years. Funds are now being directed towards At Home in Guernsey and The Tsunami Fund.
Sarnia Hotels remains family-owned and is led by Ms Harris, daughter of Andre and Sheila Sendlhofer.
The family’s history is reflected throughout the hotels, including JB Parkers, named after founder Jack Parker, and Anni’s Hideaway at Moores, named after Andre’s niece.
Ms Harris said: “I am incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone and to continue to build on the legacy they’ve created, and I look forward to what we can build within the island community over the next 70 years.”
