Sarnia Hotels has announced two new charity partners for its sustainable housekeeping initiative.
Launched in April 2024, the initiative invites guests to forgo daily housekeeping during their stay, helping reduce water, energy and chemical use. For every daily clean declined, Sarnia Hotels donates £2 to charity.
At Home in Guernsey and The Tumaini Fund will now benefit from the scheme, which operates across the group’s three hotels: Best Western Moores Hotel, Les Rocquettes Hotel and Best Western Hotel de Havelet.
Karel Harris, Managing Director of Sarnia Hotels, said: ‘It’s a simple choice during a stay, but collectively it has made a real, meaningful difference. We are proud to have raised more than £14,000 for Guernsey Trees for Life and are pleased to now support At Home in Guernsey and The Tumaini Fund.
‘Our guests have warmly received this initiative, and we’re grateful to everyone who has participated in the scheme.’
She added: ‘Both charities make a genuine difference to the people they help, and it is encouraging to know our guests are helping to contribute to their work during their stay.’
At Home in Guernsey, which supports people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Guernsey, and The Tumaini Fund, which supports vulnerable children, widows and families in Tanzania, will share future donations.
Charlie Cox, Chief Executive Officer, At Home in Guernsey, said: ‘Homelessness in Guernsey is not always visible, but it is a very real issue for people and families in our community.’
‘Support like this helps us continue to provide practical help, guidance and advocacy for those experiencing housing insecurity or are at risk of losing their homes.’
Dr Susan Wilson MBE, Founder & Chairman, The Tumaini Fund, said: ‘The Tumaini Fund supports orphans in remote and desperately poor NW Tanzania, where we build houses for destitute families, provide clean water wells to replace filthy, infected surface water sources and support our orphans into education, some to degree level.
‘Donations through this scheme will be invaluable to enable us to provide these services, and we are deeply grateful to Sarnia Hotels for this initiative.
