States Works is hosting a Recruitment Open Day to give potential plant operators the chance to go behind the scenes and meet the team who manage Guernsey’s waste sites.

The event is taking place at Longue Hougue this coming Saturday from 08:00 to 12:00.

It is aimed at those interested in driver or plant operator roles within Waste Services.

Staff will be on-site to show off the specialist plant used – including 24 tonne excavators and diggers, and a telescopic handler for clearing green waste.

Clifford Roussel, Assistant Manager of Waste Processing, said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone with a Category C drivers license to meet our team and see what we do. We are actively seeking Drivers and Plant Operators to work across our waste sites, more specifically at Mont Cuet and the Inert Waste Site at Longue Hougue.

“There’s a variety of specialist equipment across both sites, and we provide full in-house training to help new team members develop their skills and contribute to an essential service for the island.”
