Guernsey Cricket has announced its 14-man squad for the 2025 CBO Inter-Insular Trophy clash with Jersey to be held at the KGV this Saturday.

With attention now switching, albeit at least temporarily, to the longer format this is something which Team Manager Rob Thomson thinks will suit his team.

“We head into a busy period with one of the oldest fixtures and it is a mouth-watering prospect. We have made huge strides as a unit over the last couple of years and our recent performances against Jersey take us into this game in a positive mindset. We feel the 50 over format brings us into the game even more and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the lads go about the task,” he said.

“Lucas Barker returns to the squad after a period away from the island setup. We’ve enjoyed having him around the group over the last few weeks and his strong domestic form over a long period has merited his inclusion. Ed Robinson is also included in recognition of the strides he continues to make, particularly in the longer format.”

The squad is led again by Ollie Nightingale, who continues to go from strength to strength in his leadership role.

“He’s a top skipper and has really galvanized the playing squad, with everyone pulling in the same direction,” said Thomson. “He has also managed to balance that against being one of our lynchpins in the top order and he clearly hasn’t let the pressure of captaincy affect his batting which, if anything, has improved materially since he took on the captaincy.

“With the ball, we have a young bowling attack, but every player is there on merit. Luke Bichard spearheads the seamers which includes Charlie [Forshaw] who has skippered the Under-19s well in Scotland this week and has been one of the more consistent bowlers. Harry [Johnson] continues to bowl sharply as well. We also have the luxury of a variety of spinners if the pitch looks like it will take some turn.

“We hope the cricketing community will come out in force to support us and create an intimidating inter-insular atmosphere and help see the lads over the line on the day.”
