Guernsey’s business leaders have thrown their weight behind a new plan to future-proof the island’s workforce.
The G8, which represents Guernsey’s business and charity sector, has formally endorsed The Guernsey Institute’s new Adult Skills Strategy and announced the creation of an Adult Skills Board for strategic oversight.
The strategy reframes challenges like recruitment pressures, digital transformation, and an ageing workforce as opportunities for innovation and productivity.
The framework is built around three core priorities: upskilling for economic resilience; improving core skills and inclusion (literacy, numeracy, digital); and creating clear career pathways for islanders at every stage of life.
Key initiatives like Micro-credentials and GradRoutes will be delivered to make skills development flexible, relevant, and accessible to both employers and islanders.
The overall goal is a coordinated, long-term approach to help islanders adapt to change and secure meaningful opportunities.
Speaking on behalf of the G8, Glen Tonks, Chair of IoD Guernsey, said: “Guernsey’s future economic strength will be driven by the skills, talent and adaptability of our people.
“By backing this strategy and establishing the new Adult Skills Board, we are committing to a coordinated, long-term approach that helps islanders develop new skills, adapt to change and access meaningful opportunities throughout their lives.”
