The Jersey Estate Agents’ Association is calling on all estate agents in the island to become members.
John Quemard, President of the JEAA, helped to introduce the Property Ombudsman Scheme to the Channel Islands more than a decade ago.
It’s a “strict code of conduct” for industry professionals to adhere to.
Mr Quemard said: “It is already a requirement for each of our existing members to belong to the Property Ombudsman Scheme and also adopt the same code of conduct and practices as Propertymark (The National Association of Estate Agents’).”
He highlighted that buying property was, for many, “one of the biggest investments a person will make”.
“We want the people of Jersey to be protected and reassured that every estate agency business registered in Jersey is a member of the JEAA and is required to become part of a redress scheme,” he added.
As the JEAA celebrates its 60th anniversary, Mr Quemard said he will be writing to all non-members in the coming weeks to encourage sign-up to ensure all local estate agencies belong to the association.
He said: “There are so many benefits of having a local body that oversees the practices of estate agents in Jersey, and I hope that over time, the Jersey Estate Agents’ Association will soon represent every single business registered to conduct estate agency services in the island.”
