A local firm is rolling out a new fibre broadband service delivering speeds of up to 2Gbps.

HomeNet, which owns and operates its own fibre infrastructure, said its newly unveiled Roadrunner service sets “a new benchmark for residential broadband in Jersey”.

First made available to homes at the Waterfront, the rollout is under way across HomeNet’s entire fibre network – which passes 10,000 homes.

HomeNet chief executive Gary Whipp said: “Roadrunner isn’t simply faster broadband. It’s a statement about where Jersey should be heading.”

He continued: “People are using more connected devices than ever before. They’re working from home, streaming in 4K and 8K, backing up enormous amounts of data to the cloud and relying on the internet for almost every part of their daily lives.

“We wanted to build a service that doesn’t just meet today’s expectations – it exceeds tomorrow’s.”

HomeNet has also stated that its engineers are “already planning the next steps” of 5Gbps and 10Gbps residential services, built on the same network that carries Roadrunner.

The firm’s chief technology officer, Sabri Mokrani, added: “The challenge isn’t simply making broadband faster – it’s delivering those speeds consistently with exceptional reliability and ultra-low latency.”

He continued: “We’ve invested heavily in the network architecture behind Roadrunner to ensure customers receive enterprise-level performance in their homes. It’s a platform designed to evolve as technology evolves.”
