‘Jersey’s Best Workplace’ is back for its second year – and organisers are keen for local businesses to get involved in the initiative and unlock insights about their teams.
Created by All Island Media and CompassJersey, the employee engagement award aimed to identify the gold standard of staff satisfaction in the island.
During the inaugural competition last year, businesses were benchmarked against each other and received detailed analysis, with the winners revealed in May.
Express has been speaking to previous winners about the benefits of the contest and what it felt like to win.
Indigo Dental Practice & Implant Centre was named Jersey’s Best Workplace in the small team category and also won a spotlight award for wellbeing.
Christopher Martin, a director at the practice, reflected on the experience….
What was it like to win an award in the inaugural Jersey’s Best Workplace?
Winning the award was a deeply affirming experience. It signalled that our commitment to trust, wellbeing, and genuine collaboration had not only resonated internally but was also recognised externally.
It sparked a real sense of pride across the team and reaffirmed that the culture we’ve built together is worth celebrating.
What motivated you to take part in the first place?
We were motivated by a desire to benchmark ourselves within Jersey’s professional landscape and to gain structured, impartial feedback from our people.
Participating gave us the chance to reflect on what we’re doing well and where we can be even better, with the added benefit of an outside perspective.
Did the scheme benefit the firm in gathering employee insight?
Absolutely. The insights gathered were specific, honest, and actionable.
From understanding the overall sentiment to identifying areas like internal communication or growth opportunities, the results gave us a clearer picture of how our team experiences the workplace on a daily basis.
Will it shape internal practices or strategies going forward?
Yes – the feedback is already guiding improvements to onboarding and communication.
It’s helping us ensure our values are reflected not just in what we do, but how we do it.
Why do you believe fostering a great workplace culture is essential in attracting and retaining top talent in Jersey?
Jersey’s job market is tight-knit and fast-moving, so reputation and culture carry real weight.
People want more than just a role – they’re looking for purpose, connection, and the chance to thrive.
A strong, supportive culture makes all the difference, both in attracting great people and inspiring them to stay and grow.
Why do you think it is important to understand workplace culture?
Because culture isn’t just a buzzword – it’s the heartbeat of an organisation.
Understanding it allows us to nurture the environment where people feel motivated, valued, and able to perform at their best.
It’s a living system, shaped by behaviours, beliefs, and shared goals. When we understand it, we can strengthen it with intention.
