Winners in the inaugural Jersey’s Best Workplace initiative have been revealed.
From financial services providers to dental practices, hospitality firms to doctors, 11 businesses, including three runners-up, were recognised for their employee engagement efforts at a ceremony last week.
Launched last year, Jersey’s Best Workplace was a collaboration between All Island Media – the parent company of the Jersey Evening Post and Bailiwick Express – and CompassJersey.
The initiative was designed to give businesses of all sizes and sectors the opportunity to gauge their employees’ views on eight key areas: reward and recognition, information sharing, empowerment, personal pride, job satisfaction and wellbeing, line management, and learning and development.
The award was an opportunity for organisations to showcase what they do well, acting as a celebration and benchmark of success.
James Horrigan, Strategy and Growth Director at CompassJersey, described the Jersey’s Best Workplace initiative as an “opportunity for employees to give their opinions, openly, honestly and fairly, in a way which can be used to help the company market itself externally as well as to shape its internal practices”.
He said it was more likely to give a “deep view into people’s opinions of their place of work” than an internal initiative would, as it was an independently managed and anonymously completed review.
The “frankness and honesty” shown by respondents, he added, was one of the greatest benefits to participating businesses.
Winners of the Best Large Enterprise 2024 award were Seymour Hotels. They were recognised for a people-first culture that stretching across the entire group, which includes the Merton, Pomme d’Or, Greenhills Country House Hotel and the Watersplash.
“This award is a tribute to each and every one of our colleagues,” said Managing Director Matt Seymour.
“It reflects the spirit and culture we’ve worked hard to nurture – one that prioritises people, encourages purpose, and inspires pride.”
Claire Reynard, Group HR Manager, added: “We believe that culture is not taught – it’s lived.
“The Seymour Spirit is embedded in how we welcome, develop and support our teams. Being named Jersey’s Best Workplace is an incredible milestone that validates the warmth and integrity that radiates throughout our organisation.”

CompassJersey’s founding director Jacqui Richards highlighted the value for everyone who took part in the initiative, not just those who can now proudly proclaim that they are one of Jersey’s best workplaces.
“Even if you didn’t win, you have some really meaningful data which you can use to shape your policies or the way you do certain things,” she said.
“Just by taking part in the initiative, you have also shown to your staff that you value their feedback and that you want to listen to, and engage with, them.”
