One of Jersey’s most well-known lawyers – whose career includes time as the Island’s Solicitor General – has joined the Chambers of James Corbett KC, which is now the only legal practice in the island with two “silks” on its roster.
Howard Sharp KC has joined the practice as a door tenant with immediate effect, bringing expertise spanning commercial litigation, Russian sanctions, civil fraud, asset recovery and judicial review.
A door tenant is a barrister who has been granted permission to join a set of chambers and work with them from premises outside the chambers themselves.
Advocate Sharp was Her Majesty’s Solicitor General for Jersey from 8 March 2010 until 1 July 2015 and then a founder member of another set of Chambers in the island.
He is also a member of 33 Chambers, London, and has appeared in the Privy Council as leading counsel – one of very few Jersey advocates to have done so in that court.
Mr Corbett, KC, said: “Howard’s unique legal experience provides a further edge and depth to our commercial offering at an exciting time of growth for Chambers this year.”
A “silk” is a senior barrister or advocate who has been appointed as King’s Counsel (KC).
