Business leaders, policymakers, legal experts, and HR professionals are being invited to learn how to “tackle the hidden realities” of modern-day slavery in offshore jurisdictions.
The Jersey branch of the Institute of Directors’ ‘Hidden in Plain Sight: Modern Day Slavery in Offshore Jurisdictions’ breakfast seminar will take place next month.
The event will be hosted IoD Jersey’s Sustainability Subcommittee, chaired by Tom Noel, and welcome guests who will discuss labour exploitation and modern-day slavery risks within global and local supply chains.
Tristan Forster, CEO of FSI Worldwide, will deliver a keynote address on the spectrum of modern slavery, examining human trafficking through to debt bondage, and the critical Employer Pays ethical recruitment principle.
James Clarry, CEO of Justice and Care, will share survivor stories and data-driven analysis of human trafficking. He will explore the role of business and finance in both facilitating and combating exploitation.
Maria Bridson, an Isle of Man-based immigration and corporate lawyer, will offer perspective from another Crown Dependency and its approach to anti-slavery measures.
“Modern day slavery is not a distant problem; it can lurk within even the most tightly regulated jurisdictions,” said Mr Noel.
“It is not just an issue for our care, retail, agricultural or hospitality industries – this is something that impacts any business in Jersey, whether dealing with service providers or handling money flows.
“Our goal is to equip Jersey’s business community with the tools and insights needed to identify and eradicate these hidden exploitative practices.”
‘Hidden in Plain Sight: Modern Day Slavery in Offshore Jurisdictions’ will take place in the Celestial Hall, Royal Yacht Hotel & Spa, on Thursday 27 November, 8.30-11.00am.
